PERSONALITY

Upon first impression, Heather comes off as a tomboy, strong, a bit rough around the edges, but overall kind and just another normal teenager. However beneath the bleach blonde hair, edgy early 2005's clothing style, lies a woman who has gone through an endless cycle of suffering and abuse that has affected how she views the world around her. She was originally born as Alessa Gillespie to Dahlia, the head of a cult called 'The Order'. The cult's goal was to bring forth to life their God to usher in a new era of paradise, and as Alessa was born with super natural powers, her mother saw her fit to groom and prime her to become the vessel to birth God. Due to coming from a weird family and her powers, Alessa was bullied at school, physically and mentally abused by her mother, and tortured in many ways. Due to the trauma of finally being impregnated with the God, and being set on fire from the ritual, she used her powers to split her soul in two, creating an infant that would become Cheryl Mason, and creating the 'Other world' that surrounds Silent Hill as of now. Heather's real story begins when her father, Harry Mason finds this infant named Cheryl, raises her as his own and is drawn back into Silent Hill. Following the events of the first game, Alessa and Cheryl reunite and are reborn into the infant that would become Heather. Perplexed and distressed by this, Harry finds himself feeling conflicted and even debated on killing this new infant. Instead he raised her and in an effort to allude the remaining cult members, dyed her hair blonde, named her Heather Mason, and taught her how to defend herself against any threats. As of now, Heather remembers everything about her past and despite feeling anger over what the cult has done to make her the new vessel to birth their God, she understands that life is full of suffering and the best approach is to learn how to deal with it rather than letting it consume you. There is a very lovely song on the OST that reflects this thought from Alessa to Heather- 'we were put here on this Earth to feel joy, and not feel blue.'
